Vienna in the late 19th Century

Vienna was thriving with culture and prosperous. Art and music was everywhere. Famous people from Europe came to Vienna just to sit and chat about their ideas and discuss plans. The government was strong then and the governer planned many changes for the city. However, the governer himself was anti-semetic, hating Jewish people. This could have led to Freud's negative ideas that people were driven to do harmful things to others. Although the city was rich and prosperous, the space between the rich and poor was great. One was either extremely rich or extremely poor. Life probably was very hard for those who did not keep up with the rich side. During the change between the 19th and 20th century though, Vienna was the main city where psychoanalysis took place.

I agree with you that Freud's anti-Jewish surroundings may have influenced his negative ideas about human nature, and that Vienna helped shaped up his thoughts.

I agree with what you said that Freud could've observed his surroundings in Vienna and generate theories about them (gap of rich and poor, antisemitism, etc). Thanks for the info.

I agree with you that the environment in Vienna had really affected Frued's ideas negatively. This might caused some of his ideas to be biased.

It's good to learn how environments shape the the ideas of people, especially the mind of a genius, like Freud.

interesting, indeed.
you mentioned that freud established the theory of how people tend to harm others, because freud himself was a jew and his surroundings were composed of anti-sematics.wow, that is so profound.

Freud was in the right place and the right time. Even though people were still anti-semetic, he was in a society that was invited new orginal ideas. One for example is architecture. In the end Freud became the center of where psychoanalysis orginated.

Differences of rich and poor, even in a beautiful town like Vienna has it. The environment of Vienna did really influence Freud to his thought, I do agree, since Austria is anti-Jewish and Freud himself is Jewish. Nice summary, Thanks ^^

I agree that Freud might developed his ideas that human are driven to do harmful things to other because he lived in an anti-Jewish surroundings. The thing you mentioned about the gap between the rich and the poor in Vienna is also very interesting and it is new for me to learn the negative side of this beautiful city.
